Connecting Your Broker Account

Proovly connects to your MT4/MT5 broker account using the investor password — a read-only credential that lets us see your stats without being able to trade, withdraw, or modify anything on your account. The connection runs through MetaApi’s cloud infrastructure. You keep trading on your own terminal exactly as before.

  • An active MT4 or MT5 account at any supported broker
  • Your investor password (not your master/trading password)
  • Your account login number
  • Your broker’s server name (e.g., Exness-MT5Real4, ICMarketsSC-MT5-2)

MetaApi supports hundreds of MT4/MT5 brokers. Some of the most common:

  • Exness
  • IC Markets
  • Pepperstone
  • RoboForex
  • XM
  • FBS
  • FXTM
  • Tickmill
  • FP Markets
  • OctaFX

If your broker runs MT4 or MT5, it almost certainly works. The full list of supported brokers is available in MetaApi’s documentation.

Your investor password was set when the account was created. Here’s how to find or reset it:

From your broker’s client area: Most brokers show the investor password in the account details section of their web portal. Look for “Investor Password,” “Read-Only Password,” or “Viewer Password.”

From MT4/MT5:

  1. Open MT4/MT5 and log into the account
  2. Go to Tools > Options > Server tab
  3. Click Change next to the password field
  4. Select Change investor (read-only) password
  5. Set a new investor password and save it

From your broker’s email: When you first created the account, the broker likely sent an email with both the master and investor passwords. Search your inbox.

  1. Log into Proovly and go to Settings > Connected Accounts
  2. Click Add MT4/MT5 Account
  3. Fill in:
    • Broker name — select from the dropdown or type to search
    • Account login — the numeric login for your MT4/MT5 account
    • Investor password — the read-only password from Step 1
    • Server — your broker’s server name (the dropdown auto-populates common servers)
    • Platform — MT4 or MT5
  4. Click Connect

Proovly sends the credentials to MetaApi, which connects to your broker’s MT server in the cloud. Within a few seconds, your account status should show Connected and your stats begin populating.

Once connected, check your Proovly profile:

  • Balance and equity should match what you see in your MT4/MT5 terminal
  • Trade history should show your recent closed positions
  • Open positions (if any) should appear in real time

If anything looks off, the most common issues are:

  • Wrong server name. Brokers sometimes have multiple servers. Make sure you selected the one your account is actually on.
  • Wrong password type. If you entered the master password instead of the investor password, disconnect immediately and reconnect with the correct one. Proovly does not need or want your trading password.
  • Account not yet active. Some brokers take a few minutes to fully provision new accounts. Wait and try again.

MetaApi is a cloud service that maintains a persistent connection to your broker’s MT server using your investor password. It acts as a bridge between the broker and Proovly:

  • MetaApi connects to the broker server on your behalf
  • It reads account data (balance, equity, positions, trade history)
  • It streams that data to Proovly’s backend via API
  • It never places trades, never withdraws funds, never modifies anything

MetaApi’s cloud connection means your own MT4/MT5 terminal does not need to be running for Proovly to sync your stats. The investor password connection works independently of your trading session.

  • We never see your master password. Only the investor (read-only) password.
  • We cannot trade your account. Investor passwords are read-only at the broker level — this is enforced by MetaTrader itself, not by us.
  • We cannot withdraw your funds. Read-only access has no withdrawal capability.
  • Your trading is unaffected. You keep using your own MT4/MT5 terminal, your own EAs, your own strategy. Nothing changes.
  • You can disconnect at any time. Removing the connection from Proovly immediately stops all data syncing.

You can connect more than one MT4/MT5 account, subject to your tier limits:

TierMT accounts allowed

Verified1
ProUp to 5
EliteUnlimited

Each connected account appears as a separate data source on your profile. Your combined stats and ELO reflect all connected accounts together.
